My first response:
I know this man; his carriage & bearing, his face, his plastic bags, his hovering on the pavement with sense of neither directed motion nor established place nor stillness.
Second response: I must be wrong. This is Manchester, England. I have no voice for England or the English. This is personal time: there is no professional context to focus and/or release notions of fetishisation.
Third response: trust your perception.
"Excuse me, Mr. Fripp: can I have your autograph?". This was polite and admitted several kinds of response, most of which I have employed during the past 31 years on similar occasions. On this occasion I blew a kiss, waved and continued walking. I note en passant that posters who helpfully suggest how I should respond to invitations/requests/demands such as these:
1. Have no direct experience of the situation upon which they give advice;
2. Have no access to a sufficiently broad & long term stream of data to judge my responses over time;
3. Appear to assume that my response/s are inflexible (although I do have a frequently & publicly declared default strategy).

Toyah had two spots on H&E. The first: presenting her personal news review of the week. Her favourite story was of a woman in France who mugged people by threatening them with her mouse. The second: an interview focusing on her autobiography with film clips from different parts of her career. She was stunning, her presence both solid & shining.
